Topic: Pump houses and substations
Ubiquitous in the urban landscape of Christchurch are the small brick and concrete pump houses and substations that bring essential services to our homes.
Drainage and sewage pump houses and electricity substations were erected amongst the suburban homes and gardens they serviced, and they can differ greatly in design and decoration. Some have been designed by architects while many have originated from the draughting offices of the Municipal Electricity Department (MED) and Drainage Board.
