Arthur Charles Warner Bain (Service no. 6/11) was a First World War soldier with links to Christchurch.

Arthur Charles Warner BainArthur Charles Warner Bain, was born on 13 October 1892, the eldest son of Adolph William and Catherine Mary (nee Warner). He had three sisters, Clarice Warner, Audley (or Audrey) Constance, Marjorie Helen, and a brother, Donald William.

His father, Adolph, had been a manager of the drapery department of Farmer's Cooperative Association, and also the Kaiapoi Woollen Company.

Arthur had attended Christchurch Boy's High and Canterbury College, where he was a member of the 'Varsity Football Club.

On enlistment in 1914 he was a student at Normal Training College, living with his parents at 50 Park Terrace, Christchurch.  He was posted to the Canterbury Infantry Battalion.

Initially reported missing it was believed that Arhur was killed in action on 5 June 1915 at Quinns Post, Gallipoli, Turkey.

He was awarded a 1914-1915 Star, British War and Victory Medals. These were all sent to his mother, Catherine, as his father had died only a month after Arthur on 7 July 1915.

He is remembered on the Elmwood School War Memorial, and in the family plot at Linwood Cemetery, Block 35, Plot 204
