Topic: Oaklands School

Topic type:

Oaklands is a full primary school catering for Years 0-8. It was established in 1964 in response to the growing population in the Halswell area.

Located at 37 Cunningham Place, Halswell, Oaklands School takes its name from a 60 acre farm opposite the Halswell domain which was one of the first large subdivisions in Halswell. The school, however, is sited on what was a children’s play reserve that was part of the Cunningham subdivision. Initially it was to be called Dunbars Road School but this quickly changed to Oaklands.

The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 and these photos have been provided by the school as part of the Celebrating Halswell Heritage Project in conjuction with  the opening of the Te Hāpua Halswell Centre in 2015.
