Edmonds Baking Powder 14oz label.

Probably the classical label.        Such labels were first used on the 'Slip over" lid - the lid slipped over the edges of the can and then the glued labels were wrapped around the tin and also over the edge of the lid which helped keep the lid on.   When I was working in the factory (as Chemist) I admired the thousands of cans on long tables left overnight for the glue to dry.   Later "lever lid" cans were used which were easier to label. Then a labelling machine was installed and with newer glues there was no need to hold overnight. Ultimately the cans were pre printed so that labels were not required. Just settled down and then we changed to cartons using a form fill machine... such is progress.  Photos of the types of cans used will be uploaded shortly..
