Marshland Hall Roll of Honour - fourteenth portrait.

Caption

This frame contains the portraits of another six Marshland men already at the front or in training. This was unveiled
during a complimentary welcome home social for Private Ernest T Hawken (27th Reinforcements) at the Marshland Hall on Wednesday
13 October 1918. Private Hawken spoke of his experiences serving as an infantryman, a driver and a tunneller. He also talked of being wounded.

The portraits are:

  • Private David James Lutton (64997)
  • Trooper William George Moore (43223)
  • Trooper Hughie Henry Dawson (72057)
  • Private Arthur Vincent Baker (72020)
  • Private Michael Faulls (57500)
  • Rifleman Friedrick (Fred) Gotlib Lange? (military file not found)

Unveiled by Miss Hawken (sister of the guest, Private Ernest Hawken) in place of Ernest's mother who was unable to attend.

The Press report noted that the addition of this frame brought the total number of portraits in the Marshland Hall
photographic roll of honour to 77.

*In early 2016 the Marshland Hall Trust handed over the remaining Roll of Honour portrait frames to the Christchurch memorial RSA on indefinite loan for safe keeping. Thanks to both institutions for permission to use this image.
