Marshland Hall Roll of Honour - fourth portrait.

This photographic group portrait of Marshland men who had departed for military service in the First World War was unveiled at another complimentary farewell social at Marshland Hall on Monday 10 January 1916.

The portraits are:

  • Private Albert Boakes (24/313)
  • Captain-Chaplain William Grigg (18/15) 
  • Trooper Albert Rees (24/1536)
  • Private John William Jackson (6/3361)
  • Private Cecil Thomas James (Australian Imperial Force - 2161)
  • Rifleman Albert William Forsyth (23/138)


Unveiled by Mrs T Quaid (mother of Private Thomas Quaid who departed with the Main Contingent in 1914 and who had been wounded at the Front)

By this time there were portraits of 20 men on display in the Marshland Hall, however there were around
40 local men who had already departed for military service.

*In early 2016 the Marshland Hall Trust handed over the remaining Roll of Honour portrait frames to the
Christchurch Memorial RSA on indefinite loan for safe keeping. Thanks to both institutions for permission to use
