Wedding party in Merivale, 1910.

The wedding party approaches the horse-drawn carriage after their wedding in St Mary's Church, Papanui Road.

Miss  Rubina (Ruby) Gebbie of "Burnt Hollow" Teddington (on Gebbies Pass Road) married William Walter Cyril Cossgrove on 12 January 1910. They were my grandparents, at St Mary's Anglican Church, Merivale.

The scout's guard of honour refers to the groom's father Lt-Colonel David Cossgrove who worked tirelessly to establish scouting in New Zealand from its inception in the U. K. in 1908.

Date: 12 January 1910

Highly commended entry in the 2015 Christchurch City Libraries Photo Hunt by Margaret Esplin.

Note: The building in the background appears to be the the Sunday School building of the Methodist Church on the corner of Papanui Road and Rugby Street, one block north of St Mary's.     However the date and place of the Cossgrove-Gebbie wedding are  undisputed & verified in official records so perhaps the wedding party walked along Papanui Road to the carriage.
