Caption

  • Corner of Harewood Road and Restell St by Papanui Railway Station. The 1958 shot shows four little brothers ‘A_B_C_D’ (Anthony, Brian, Chris, Douglas) waiting for their beloved Auntie Moira to arrive by rail car.

The 2004 shot was taken in the same position as a recreation of the original shot in celebration of our mother Lauris 80th Birthday.

Date: 1958, 2004

Winning entry in the Two Views in Time category of the 2014 Christchurch City Libraries Photo Hunt by Chris Andrew..

Judge's comment: A wonderfully evocative image and story of the past and present. The railway lines that crisscross Christchurch have played an important part in many peoples' lives. I remember a similar moment from my own childhood waiting for my father to return by train from Lyttelton standing on the Moorhouse avenue over-bridge.
