Named after the Anglican bishopric of Armagh in Ireland.

Named by surveyors Joseph Thomas (b. 1803) and Edward Jollie (1825-1894).

One of the original streets of Christchurch, Armagh Street starts at Park Terrace opposite the Armagh Street entracne to Hagley Park and runs through the central city, with a dog-leg across Stanmore Road before ending at England Street in Linwood.
