The first building at Sydenham School.

Caption

The original Sydenham School building was a wooden building with a bell tower. A narrow winding and steep staircase led to a small room in the bell tower which became the depository for old slates, and other junk. On the plaster walls were scrawled the names of hundreds of pupils from the time the school began until this structure was pulled down.

After demolition the bell from the tower was placed on a stand in the school grounds.
