Biennial event held in Akaroa, Banks Peninsula, celebrating the town's heritage.

The Akaroa French Festival runs over an October weekend every 2 years, and celebrates the town's history, heritage and french connections.

French Fest was first held in Akaroa in 1993, produced by the Akaroa Heritage Festival Society, and ran annually until 2011 when it became a biennial event.

The 2015 event (10-11 October) marked 175 years since the first arrival of European settlers to the colony.

The weekend programme included events such as a recreation of the 1840 landing of the Comte de Paris immigrant ship, market stalls,  cabaret shows, french sports and fireworks.

The 2017 event ran over three days (6-8 October) and included a street party on the Friday,  'Le Jour du Marche' (Market Day) on the Saturday with a street parade, French-inspired games, stalls, food and entertainment, and for the first time a Whanau Day held at Onuku Marae on the Sunday.
