Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) is a bi-ennial event held over the Labour Day weekend to celebrate urban creativity and regeneration.

The inaugural FESTA took place in 2012 as a collaboration of like-minded organisations and individuals responding to the challenges and opportunities in post-quake Christchurch. The festival, originally held annually, includes architectural installations, workshops, talks, pop-up projects, family events, tours, live performance, and artworks.

The 2013 festival had 48 events and took place over 25-28 October at various spaces around Christchurch. On Sunday 27 October, the festival's headline event, Free Theatre’s Canterbury Tales carnival and procession took to Cathedral Square and the surrounding streets.

The theme of FESTA  2014 was The Future Will Be Live and ran from 25-27 October. The headline event - CityUps - was held on the corner of Lichfield, Manchester and High streets on Saturday 25 October.

The 2016 festival was held on October and focused on sustainability through the reuse of waste materials in design - with the theme We Have the Means. There were over 30 events across the weekend, with art installations, workshops, talks, pop-up projects, family events, foraging tours, live performance, artworks and more. The headline event, Lean Means, was held on Saturday 22 October, in the creation of a 'temporary city'. The city featured a series of sculptural installations, made from reused ‘waste’ materials, designed by students from seven design and architecture schools from across Australasia.

FESTA is presented and produced by the team at Te Pūtahi – Christchurch centre for architecture and city-making, which is governed by a registered charity, the Christchurch Transitional Architecture Trust.
