Percival Raymond Jones was a Canterbury First World War soldier whose life is commemorated on the Waltham War Memorial Gates.

Percy was born in Timaru 20 Jan 1889. When he enlisted on the 1st of June 1916 he had brown hair, brown eyes, a scar on his chin and was tall for the time at 5 ft 10”. He was 26 years old and was residing in Waltham Road, Sydenham. 

Prior to his enlistment he had had 2 years service on B Battery in Christchurch and was employed as a clerk. He later became a Driver in the NZ Field Artillery. 

Percy embarked on the "Pakeha" at Wellington on 19 November 1916 and reached Devonport 18 November 1916. He left for France 2 months later. 

He was killed in action 29 June 1917, in Belgium at the age of 29. His grave is in the Motor Car Corner Cemetery in Hainault, Belgium.
