Topic: Te Ara Ōtākaro - Avon trail

Topic type:

Te Ara Ōtākaro is a 12km riverside walking, running and cycling trail along the Avon River / Ōtākaro.

Te Ara Ōtākaro is a transitional project from the Avon-Ōtākaro Network consisiting of a 12km city-to-sea riverside trail running along at least one bank from Barbadoes St bridge to Pages Road bridge beside the Ōtākaro Avon River.

The first section of work started in April 2017 from Retreat Road/Avonside Drive through to the Gayhurst Road Bridge.

First stage of the trail will be officially opened on 15 October 2017 with a public walking event and family fun day at Kerrs Reach. The full trail is expected to open in early 2018.

It is expected the transitional trail will remain in use for at least two years while a permanent  regeneration solution for this area is found.
