Formerly Victoria Street, after HM Queen Victoria (1819-1901). Re-named Alexandra Street. Named after HM Queen Alexandra (1844- 1925), consort of King Edward VII.
Victoria Street first appears in street directories in 1892. Re-named Alexandra Street on 7 March 1904. [In 1926 the council proposed changing the names of 29 streets. 21 streets only were renamed after protests from the public. Alexandra Street was to have been re-named Ashby Street.]
