Red placarded building.

An engineers report stated "Moderate risk of building collapsing or part of building collapsing onto adjacent property or public space. The very high decorative parapet on upper level Ferry Road elevation could collapse in aftershock. There is a severe risk of the building collapsing or part of the building collapsing into itself or onto its own property only.  The interior is also generally damaged.".

Sadly the library was badly damaged in the earthquakes which shook Christchurch in 2010 and 2011. After a team of volunteers scrambled to recover the books the building was demolished at the end of June 2011.
