The Temple for Christchurch, Peterborough Street - 12 September 2013 #IMG 4729 It was designed as an architectural intrepretaion of the waveforms created by the February 2011 earthquake - the most destructive of the earthquakes to hit Christchurch during 2010 & 201.   It was approximately 40 meters long, 25 meters wide and  6.3 meters at its highest point.

Visitors to the temple were encouraged to add to the walls with their own stories, photos or poems.  From 4th - 15th September 2013 it was located on the site of the former Convention Centre in Peterborough Street.  It was then relocated to Motukarara racecourse and was ceremonially burnt as a cathartic exercise on September 21st., the spring equiox, to assist people to let go of their experiences.

The temple was designed by Christchuch artist Hippathy Valentine.  Full details of the background, concept, design and building are on the temple website.
