Himalayas Indian Restaurant on Colombo Street was damaged during the Canterbury earthquake 2010 and was eventually demolished.
Himalayas Indian Restaurant was located at 830A Colombo Street. It was damaged during the Canterbury earthquake on 4 September 2010 and was eventually demolished on 2 December 2010. The restaurant has since moved to a temporary location on Main North Road.
According to the restaurant's website, Prime Minister John Key ate there several times.
Very soon afterwards the owners announced plans to rebuild a new Himalayas Restaurant on the same site with signage indicating it would be up and running in mid-January.
Construction on the new building began in January but was halted by the 22 February quake. In the meantime Himalayas continued by offering a takeaway/delivery service from Blenheim Rd premises.
Eventually work on the building continued and the restaurant re-opened on the same site on 21 September 2011.
