Three temporary accommodation villages were established in the areas of Rawhiti and Linwood. These were set up by the Government to help meet increasing demand for short term rental housing after the Canterbury earthquakes.

Linwood village was established in August 2011 in the playing fields of Linwood Park.

The Linwood temporary village has 42 units (16x 2brm, 20x 3brm, 6x 4brm). Two semi-furnished units are available at Linwood.

The villages were set up by the Government on council-owned land, and have been run by the Canterbury Earthquake Temporary Accommodation Service ( Cetas ). They were originally intended to close in mid-2013.
