View of part of the military parade organised to welcome the French Mission to New Zealand on their visit to Akaroa  9-10 January 1919.   This was the only military parade for the  mission during their three week visit and was mounted because of Akaroa's early French settlement.

The photo shows the middle of the parade with local returned soldiers, Red Cross and Lady Liverpool workers.

Local school children were dressed in the colours of  the French flag and sang the Marsellaise in French and  local Maori also sang the Marsellaise and provided a poi demonstration.  The mission was welcomed enthusiastically and made several stops along the route from Christchurch to Akaroa.    Source: Akaroa Mail and Banks Peninsula Advertiser, 10 January 1919.
